Year 4 Trip to the National Gallery – A Creative Day Out!
Our Year 4 pupils recently enjoyed an inspiring visit to the National Gallery in London. Surrounded by masterpieces, the children explored how tessellating patterns and repeating shapes are used in classical artwork. The visit sparked thoughtful discussion and close observation as pupils studied details within the paintings.
Equipped with sketchbooks and pencils, the children had the opportunity to sit among the gallery’s rich collection and sketch elements that caught their eye. They focused on shapes, textures, and patterns, translating what they saw into their own creative designs.
The gallery space was filled with concentration and creativity—children stood, sat, and sketched with impressive focus and enthusiasm. The visit not only supported our art curriculum but also inspired a deeper appreciation for the beauty of classical art and the mathematics behind it.
A huge thank you to the National Gallery for welcoming us and to the staff and volunteers who supported the trip!
