The children had a wonderful time celebrating their love of reading and books on World Book Day. Each class dressed up as characters from their favourite book. Reception children were dressed as little whales from the book ‘The Storm Whale’, while Year 4 children were characters from ‘Charlie and the Chocolate Factory’. There were witches, wizards and wands in Year 5 in celebration of the much loved ‘Harry Potter’.
During the morning, Nursery, Reception and Year 1 invited parents and guardians into class to share their favourite stories. Key Stage 1 welcomed the author of ‘The Selfish Crocodile’, Faustin Charles, to share his experience of writing books. Key Stage 2 celebrated with a special assembly about their favourite authors.
In the afternoon the children swapped classes to read and do art and craft activities together, inspired by the books they love. Our older children did a fantastic job of reading to the younger ones and helping them with the craft activities. In Year 3 the children were excited to choose a book to take home and keep as part of the national ‘Young Readers Programme’. After school there was a well-attended book fair, where lots more books were bought and enjoyed.
