Congratulations to the six children who were awarded their bronze and silver ABRSM (Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music) Music Medal qualifications on the recorder or violin in assembly today. The children were learning the instruments in Year 5 as part of our Wider Opportunities Music Programme and worked hard to prepare for their assessment in July. This is a fantastic achievement for the children involved and we are very proud of them!
This is the first time that we have entered children for ABRSM Music Medals and we hope that more Year 4 and 5 children will gain Music Medal qualifications this year. The ABRSM Music Medals run alongside the ABRSM grade exams and have been devised to be used in schools where children are learning instruments in groups. Beyond our Wider Opportunities Music Programme, the children will be able to continue to have instrumental lessons and progress through ABRSM Music Medals or ABRSM grade exams. It is rewarding for the children to have their musical progress acknowledged and marked by the achievement of these awards, while at the same time collecting credits that can be used towards other national qualifications and UCAS points on application to university in the future.
