Year 6- equivalent fractions

Have you learnt about equivalent fractions?

Year 6 have been using paper strips to build their Fraction Wall to help them understand equivalent fractions.

They started with one strip at the top to create a whole, then folded paper to create sections according to the denominator from halves to twelfths.

They then looked at lines that matched up and explored why, for example, 1/2 is equal to 2/4, and 1/3 is equal to 2/6.

Fraction Wall can help us to visualise and understand equivalent fractions and also to order fractions.
