Author and Illustrator Workshop with Kate Pankhurst–Year 1

Our Year 1 children recently enjoyed a fantastic workshop with Kate Pankhurst, a bestselling children’s author and illustrator, best known for her books celebrating influential women in history.
Kate captivated the children with stories about the real-life heroes who inspire her writing. She spoke about her own ancestor, Emmeline Pankhurst, the famous Suffragette who led the campaign for women’s right to vote. The children were fascinated to learn how Kate uses her family history and passion for equality to create powerful books that make history exciting and accessible for young readers.
Following the talk, the children took part in a fun, hands-on drawing activity where they learned some of Kate’s illustration techniques and created their own character sketches. It was a joyful and inspiring session that combined creativity, history, and imagination.
We are very grateful to Kate for visiting our school and sparking such enthusiasm in our young learners. It was a memorable experience that left everyone feeling inspired!
