Year 6 Visit to the British Museum

Our Year 6 classes, Jacaranda and Iroko, recently visited the British Museum to explore the fascinating Benin Bronzes. The trip allowed the children to extend their knowledge from lessons at school and to connect it with their writing project, “Children of the Benin Kingdom.”

The exhibition gave pupils the opportunity to see the incredible craftsmanship of the Benin artists and to learn more about the rich and mysterious history of the Kingdom of Benin. The children were amazed by the detail and beauty of the bronzes, especially those showing interactions between the Benin people and Portuguese traders.

During the visit, the pupils also had a chance to sketch some of their favourite artefacts, observe differences between the various bronzes, and reflect on what they had learned in class. It was an inspiring experience that brought history to life! We would also like to thank the parents for helping us!
