Year 6 Iroko & Jacaranda – Benin Bronzes Art Project
Both Year 6 classes, Iroko and Jacaranda, took part in a unique two-day art project last week, exploring the history and artistic traditions of the Benin Bronzes. Building on their earlier learning in humanities, pupils created their own artworks inspired by the rich heritage of the Benin Kingdom.
The workshops were led by Alix Smith, an experienced artist-teacher who brought her creativity, expertise and passion for visual arts directly into our classrooms. The sessions were highly engaging and hands-on, and our pupils showed curiosity, imagination and excellent teamwork throughout. Their final pieces reflect a deepening understanding of global art, culture and storytelling.
